An early afternoon visitor decided to make their presence felt in an extravagent show. Naturally the dogs went crazy, Lindi went crazy, mayhem erupted and I charged inside to get my..... camera!
This juvenile Cape Cobra was extremely aggressive and decided to stay in our garden for a few days. One afternoon it even ventured up onto our stoep near the front door. It is extremely venomous and easily provoked to attack, a solid strike can kill a man within 2 hours. Thankfully none of our dogs were bitten and the snake moved on to a quieter neighbourhood several days later.
Awesome pic! These cobras are acting strange lately. Bit cold this time of year for them lurking around. Also generally quite shy and not prone to sticking around humans. This year Feb we also had a juvenile cobra on the farm come right up to the house, not once, not twice but 3 times in the space of an hour. Not aggressive seemed more curious then anything else. We spoke to a snake specialist who said this behaviour is very unusual for a cobra and we should consider ourselves lucky to have experienced it! Hmmm not so sure about that! But they are fascinating creatures.
